Tampa Bay Vipers QB Quinton Flowers Taking Time Away From Team For ‘Personal Reasons’

It looks like the Tampa Bay Vipers will be without quarterback Quinton Flowers for the time being.

According to a report from The Tampa Bay Times Sports’ Mari Faiello, Vipers coach Marc Trestman announced that Flowers – who missed today’s practice – isn’t with the team for “personal reasons.” Taylor Cornelius will get the start for the Vipers this weekend, with Aaron Murray serving as backup.

Trestman did not elaborate as to why Flowers was missing from the team, but says he respects his quarterback’s decision and wants him back soon. It’s been a rough go of things for Flowers, and the entire Vipers’ quarterback crew, thus far into the XFL 2020 season. Flowers has passed for 106 yards, no touchdowns, and an interception through the first three weeks of football.

His quarterback rating sits at 48.2 on the year. Flowers has been much more effective as a rusher, rushing for 78 yards and a touchdown thus far this year. Tampa Bay will host the DC Defenders this weekend on Sunday, March 1 on ESPN 2.
