Seattle Dragons Beat Tampa Bay Vipers 17-9

The Seattle Dragons have earned their first win of the XFL season after beating the Tampa Bay Vipers 17-9.

This game featured some pretty abysmal quarterback play from both teams. Seattle quarterback Brandon Silvers finished the day with a 39 percent completion percentage after completing seven of his 18 pass attempts for 91 yards, a touchdown, and an interception. The performance was good enough for a 50.9 quarterback rating. Wide receiver Keenan Reynolds was a bright spot for the Dragons offense, who hauled in three catches for 87 yards and a score.

The Vipers had a much worst day on the offensive side of the ball, with two quarterbacks who had rough days. Taylor Cornelius completed 16 of his 27 pass attempts for 154 yards, no touchdowns, and two interceptions. Completing 59 percent of his passes, Cornelius earned a 44.4 quarterback rating. Quinton Flowers completed three of his seven pass attempts for only 18 yards, no scores, and also threw an interception.

Seattle’s defense was certainly up for the challenge, as they held the Vipers to just nine points. The Dragons scored four total sacks, 11 tackles for a loss, and six passes defended. Tampa Bay’s defense did snag a pick, and got to the quarterback twice, but gave up 17 points in the loss. Next week, the 1-1 Dragons will host the Dallas Renegades, while the now 0-2 Vipers host the Houston Roughnecks.
