LA Wildcats Fire Defensive Coordinator Pepper Johnson After Week One

The Los Angeles Wildcats have made some big moves coming off their Week One loss to the Houston Roughnecks to kick off the 2020 XFL season.

It was announced this morning that linebacker and team captain Anthony Johnson was released by the team. Now, it has been reported that defensive coordinator Pepper Johnson has also been handed his walking papers. His replacement will be confirmed shortly, per Pick Wise’s Alex Alarcon.

The LA Wildcats fell to the Houston Roughnecks 37-17 in Week One, giving up 315 total net yards, 37 points, and 5.6 yards per play. Of course, the defense wasn’t the only contributing factor to the loss, as the offensive side of the ball failed to produce anything of significance either.

With starting quarterback Josh Johnson dealing with an injury, the team is forced to go with backup Chad Kanoff. It will be interesting to see how effective these changes are heading into the Wildcats’ first home game of the season against the Dallas Renegades.
