Houston Roughnecks Roll Past LA Wildcats In Week One

The Houston Roughnecks rolled past the LA Wildcats in Week One of the XFL’s inaugural 2020 season. Houston took home the victory 37-17 over Los Angeles.

Houston’s offense was led by quarterback PJ Walker, who completed 59 percent of his passes for 272 yards, four touchdowns, throwing one pick. Walker finished the game with a 103.8 passer rating and rushed four times for 26 yards on the ground. Walker was very generous with his receivers, as he distributed the ball to eight different wideouts, with each touchdown scored done so by a different receiver.

It was a tough day for the Wildcats, led by signal-caller Chad Kanoff. He passed for 214 yards, completing 21 of his 40 attempts. He scored one touchdown through the air but also threw an interception. Kanoff finished the day with a 66 passer rating. There was one bright spot in the Wildcats’ offense, as wide receiver Nelson Spruce hauled in 11 receptions for 103 yards.

On the defensive side of the ball, Houston also dominated with five sacks, a forced fumble, and two interceptions. The secondary also had 11 passes defended over the course of four quarters. Houston, overall, put on a dominant showing and are ready to host the BattleHawks next week. As for the Wildcats, they’ll remain in Texas to attempt a bounce-back against the Dallas Renegades.
