XFL finalizing apparel deal with Starter athletic brand

The XFL is going to hit some fans with a whole lot of nostalgia, as Front Office Sports is reporting the league is finalizing an apparel deal with the Starter athletic brand.

Starter is expected to produce off-field apparel for the XFL and its eight teams. Meanwhile, the XFL is also working on a separate deal for an on-field uniform supplier. Starter is currently owned by Iconix Brand Group and helped outfit the now-defunct Alliance of American Football, which filed for Chapter 7 bankruptcy in April.

During its initial run in 2001, the XFL was partnered with Champion for on-field uniforms, practice wear, and replica jerseys. As for their helmet supplier, the XFL worked with BIKE. The XFL is expected to make announcements regarding apparel, uniform, and equipment partners over the next several weeks.

Starter is known for its iconic “Starter Jackets” that ran rampant during the ’80s and ’90s. While it was once one of the hottest brands in sports, Starter fell on hard times in the late ’90s before being purchased by Nike. Iconix bought Starter back from Nike in 2007, and ever since, the brand has slowly been rising back in the sports apparel world.
