Veteran CFL Receiver S.J. Green Signs With XFL

The XFL will be welcoming Canadian Football League (CFL) veteran wide receiver S.J. Green to the league.

TNS’s Matthew Scianitti reports that Green will sign with the XFL primary ownership group and will enter the league waiver wire. His deal with the XFL runs through May 31. The Toronto Argonauts reportedly made an offer to keep Green before releasing him.

He also listened to offers from other CFL teams before deciding he wasn’t pleased with the market for veteran receivers. Now, he’s with the XFL, where he could possibly reunite with former coach Marc Trestman, who now coaches the Tampa Bay Vipers. Once his deal with the XFL runs out, Green will re-evaluate his options in the CFL.

The 34-year-old Texas-born veteran played his college football for South Florida. He had a brief stint in the NFL with the New York Jets but has played most of his career in Canada for teams such as the Alouettes and Argonauts. It will be interesting to see how well he translates into the XFL.
