Callaway’s signing was made official on the Vipers Twitter page.
The 23-year-old Callaway played his college ball for the University Of Florida in the SEC. He played during his freshman and sophomore years, while his junior year was affected by some sexual assault allegations that were later dismissed. Callaway was selected by the Cleveland Browns in the fourth round of the 2018 NFL Draft but failed to live up to expectations in the two seasons he spent with the team.
His first season he finished with 586 receiving yards and five touchdowns. Things were looking good for Callaway heading into 2019, however, after just four games in which he caught for 89 yards and no touchdowns, Cleveland waived Callaway after showing up late to meetings and practices.
Prior to being released Callaway had also served a four-game suspension for violating the NFL’s substance-abuse policy. Now, Callaway gets a second shot at pro football with the XFL’s Vipers.
