High school linebackers coach Lucas Wacha gets drafted to XFL during practice (Video)

Lucas Wacha

The XFL won’t just be an alternative for professional football fans, but for players as well, such as Lucas Wacha. Wacha is a former linebacker for the NFL’s Dallas Cowboys and the Canadian Football League’s (CFL) Hamilton Tiger-Cats.

Last week, the XFL’s Tampa Bay Vipers drafted Wacha in the seventh round of the XFL Draft. Wacha, a high school linebackers coach, got the draft call in the middle of practice. He answered the call in front of his players, who swarmed him after the big news was made official.

Check out the heartwarming video below, which was shared by one of Wacha’s players on Twitter.

“XFL Draft alert! Pretty special when your practice gets interrupted because your LB Coach @Lucas_wacha12 gets THE CALL! Congrats bro….TAMPA BAY!”

Wacha commented on sharing the special moment with his players in a recent Tweet.

“First off this team means so much to me!! They truly come to work every single day and make me a better person! I love these guys I get to work with every single day! Thank you for sharing this special moment with me guys! Love y’all!”

Wacha and the Vipers will open up their 2020 season against the New York Guardians on Sunday, February 9. The game will be broadcast at 2 p.m. ET on FOX. To view the full schedule for the XFL’s inaugural season, which kicks off in February, click here.
