Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson buys the XFL

In a major breaking news story first reported by Sportico, Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson has reported the XFL alongside partner RedBird Capital.

The bankrupt league closed in April after league owner Vince McMahon said he couldn’t continue because of COVID-19. Johnson and RedBird Capital purchased the league for $15 million just hours before it was set to go to auction.

Johnson’s presence will allow the league to establish more relationships. Johnson already has relationships with major power players in the television industry, including NBC, where he hosts “Titan Games.”

With TV networks looking for live sports, it shouldn’t be too difficult to find a new home for the league.

RedBird Capital is also an investor in the YES Network, the regional sports home of the New York Yankees, among other sports and television properties.
