Colin Kaepernick Wanted An ‘Exorbitant’ Salary To Play In The XFL

The XFL could have signed Colin Kaepernick to play for them but the league would have had to pay him a hefty salary.

During an interview with NPR, XFL Commissioner Oliver Luck confirms that the league spoke with Kaepernick’s representatives.

Luck said, “the salary requirements that were broached in that conversation were exorbitant and certainly out of our range.”

Luck added that since the XFL is a start-up league, they need to be fiscally responsible and fiscally prudent.

Luck said the talks happened over a year ago. When asked if he would consider talks again if the salary requirements were reasonable, Luck said he doesn’t know and the league wants the best players who are interested in playing for the league.

Kaepernick hasn’t played since 2016 and he’s expressed interest in playing football again. During his days in the NFL, he made more than $40 million over 6 seasons. At this time, Kaepernick remains a free agent.

We first reported about the XFL’s talks with Kaepernick last February.
