It was announced today by the XFL that former Oklahoma coach Bob Stoops will be the head coach and general manager of the team in Dallas.
Stoops was introduced during a news conference by XFL Commissioner Oliver Luck.
“At first I thought it probably wouldn’t be for me,” Stoops said. “But through our discussions as a family, started to think this would fit us correctly.”
Stoops retired from coaching in 2017 after coaching 18 seasons with the Sooners. He previously turned down several opportunities to coach in the NFL while he was at Oklahoma.
The league will kick off in 2020 and they want to get coaches and quarterbacks and coaches locked in during the next several weeks so they can start local promotion in each market.
There are at least two major TV networks in serious negotiations with the league and it’s expected that a TV deal will be announced in the next couple of weeks.
This is obviously a big signing for the league.
