It looks like the first weekend of XFL football has been a success for the league.
The social media reaction for the first weekend of games has been mostly positive and the XFL has been among the top searched terms this weekend, according to Google Trends. That would indicate that they drew solid ratings but we won’t know what the numbers look like until Nielsen releases them on Monday.
Another sign that fans are willing to give the league a chance is in the attendance figures. Sports reporter Darrell Rovell states that the XFL has already surpassed the number of ticket sales than the AAF had for their entire season.
The first game in Washington, DC drew 17,163 fans and they got to see a fantastic game between the Seattle Dragons and the DC Defenders. Fans at the game reported that most of the merchandise was sold by the end of the game.
The 5 pm game on Saturday between the Houston Roughnecks and the Los Angeles Wildcats drew 17,815 fans at TDECU Stadium.
It will be interesting to see if the league can keep the momentum into next weekend’s games.
