It looks like Dallas Renegades fans can rest easy, as they won’t be losing head coach and general manager Bob Stoops to Florida State University.
There was some chatter earlier this month that Stoops could forgo his opportunity with the XFL and pursue the vacant head coaching position at FSU. However, according to a report from 247 Sports, confirming an initial report from The Tallahassee Democrat, FSU “does not consider [Stoops] a candidate” for its vacant coaching job.
Speaking to ESPN Central Texas this week, Stoops was asked about potentially returning to college football one day, but didn’t give a firm answer.
“Well you never know what the Lord is going to bring ya,” Stoops said. “Everybody wants you to define your life at every age. At 50, they wanted me to know what I was going to do the rest of my life.
“And at 55, and now at 59, everyone thinks you gotta…ya know, who knows what I’ll be doing next year or the year after. You don’t know what you’re going to be doing next year. And the good Lord is the only one who knows. We’ll see where things end up for me.”
However, he did end off the interview with some optimism towards his opportunity with the Renegades.
“I’m excited about this adventure here with the Dallas Renegades and looking forward to some good, exciting football with them,” Stoops said.
